Development Support
The Greater Cabarrus Foundation is dedicated to fostering the growth and success of nonprofit agencies in Cabarrus County through our Agency Professional Development Support. Once every three months, the Foundation is sponsoring a single topic lunch and learn workshop focusing on one area of nonprofit administration followed by an opportunity for fellowship and networking.
By investing in the skills and capacity of agency staff, we empower them to innovate, collaborate, and address community needs with greater impact and efficiency. Together, we strive to build a resilient nonprofit sector that drives positive change and improves the quality of life for all residents of Cabarrus County.

This workshop will help agency staff and leadership learn the Greater Cabarrus Foundation’s approach to its grantmaking program and free organizational assessment review service. The Foundation’s President and CEO, Dr. Cam Cruickshank will provide an overview of the grantmaking program, including:
✅ Grant application requirements and timeline
✅ Criteria the Foundation will use to score grant applications based on a grant scoring rubric
✅ Grant review and announcement of grant recipients
The grants program overview will prepare applicant agencies for the program’s inaugural cycle in 2025 and help them understand the Foundation’s perspective on grantmaking priorities, purpose, and desired outcomes.
In addition, Dr. Cruickshank will review the Foundation’s free organizational assessment service. This overview will cover:
- How the organizational assessment will add value to an agency’s evaluation and continuous improvement processes
- How the 501 Commons self-assessment survey measures key agency inputs such as governance and boards, fundraising and financial management, and planning, technology, and administration among others, and provides standards for agency best practices
- The organizational review process overview including the 501 self-assessment survey’s role in building the focus of consultant selection, agency stakeholder group identification, site visit agenda, and post-visit recommendations; timelines for the review process and post-review follow-up; and short- and long-term recommendations for agency improvement provided in the post-visit meeting
- Best practices of the organizational review process based on completed reviews to date
Workshop attendees will gain valuable insight into the Foundation’s grantmaking process and how to assess Foundation priorities and position their agencies for the upcoming grants cycle in summer 2025, learn about the benefits of conducting a free organizational review, and have questions answered about both programs by Foundation staff.
