Interagency Consulting Services

As part of our commitment to strengthening nonprofit agencies in Cabarrus County, the Greater Cabarrus Foundation offers specialized Interagency Consulting Services designed to enhance organizational effectiveness, sustainability, and impact. These services are offered at no cost to agencies and provide nonprofits with a structured, collaborative way to identify opportunities, solve challenges, and plan for long-term success.

Organizational Review Consultation

Nonprofit agencies can benefit from a complimentary one-day organizational review conducted by a team of consultants which typically includes two peer nonprofit agency executives, one volunteer professional consultant and a Foundation staff member. This collaborative assessment provides valuable insights and recommendations to improve governance, operations, and strategic direction.

The Three-Phase Review Process

The Organizational Review follows a structured, three-phase process that uses the nationally recognized 501 Commons Five Elements Assessment as its foundation:

Phase 1 – Self-Assessment
The agency begins by completing the Five Elements self-assessment, covering governance, fundraising, communications, planning, and management. This self-evaluation is shared with the consulting team two weeks before the site visit. A preparation call is then held to identify current challenges and customize the site visit agenda and required background materials.

Phase 2 – Onsite Discovery Sessions
The consulting team conducts in-depth, facilitated conversations with board members, staff, volunteers, and clients. These sessions provide valuable insight into organizational strengths, challenges, and culture.

Phase 3 – Observations & Recommendations Report
Within one month of the site visit, the Principal and Associate Consultant present a written report and lead a follow-up discussion with the agency’s leadership.

Outcomes and Benefits

Through this tailored consulting process, agencies gain:

  • A clearer understanding of their strengths and opportunities
  • Practical, actionable steps to improve governance, fundraising, operations, and culture
  • Insights to guide both immediate improvements and long-term planning
  • Increased confidence among staff and board leadership to address challenges proactively

By investing in nonprofit effectiveness, the Greater Cabarrus Foundation helps ensure that local agencies are equipped to serve the community with excellence, innovation, and sustainability.
