Affiliate Community Funds
Affiliate Community Funds are established by an individual, group, or organization to benefit a particular geographic area or community and operate under the umbrella of The Greater Cabarrus Foundation. They work to inspire local philanthropy by supporting area nonprofits with resources, expertise, and funding, while leveraging the professional management, investment, and grantmaking support of the Greater Cabarrus Foundation to amplify their impact.
How Affiliate Funds Work
- Local Leadership
Each affiliate community fund is overseen by a local advisory board of community leaders who understand the specific needs of their area.
- Philanthropic Focus
Individuals associated with an affiliate work to attract donors and create endowed funds to support local causes and organizations within their area of focus.
- Grantmaking and Support
When funds are available, the local board oversees the distribution of meaningful, impactful, and equitable grants to nonprofits, while the parent foundation provides expertise in finance, development, and investment to grow and manage the endowed funds.
Benefits of an Affiliate Structure
- Professional Management
Donors and local boards benefit from the professional management and financial expertise of the Greater Cabarrus Foundation. GCF handles the day-to-day administrative duties of gift receipting, donor records, fund accounting, and grant tracking.
- Amplified Local Impact
Affiliates receive access to GCF resources and opportunities that help them to increase their philanthropic impact in their local area. This includes assistance with fundraising planning and strategy, marketing and promotion, GCF website and giving portal presence, planned giving assistance and the ability to accept stock transfers, gifts of real estate, and other non-cash gifts.
- Long-Term Sustainability
Endowed funds allow for long-term investments in communities, with earnings providing grants and scholarships for current and future needs.
- Stronger Communities
By focusing on local needs and working collaboratively, affiliates help to strengthen their communities and enhance the quality of life for residents.

Ben Mynatt Children's Fund
The Ben Mynatt Children’s Fund is a new affiliate fund established to honor and expand the philanthropic legacy of the Ben Mynatt family. Rooted in the history of the Ben Mynatt Children's Foundation, which was founded in 2002 in memory of local businessman Ben Mynatt, this fund represents a deepened commitment to the well-being of our community’s youth.
The primary purpose of the Ben Mynatt Children’s Fund is to secure and grow resources dedicated to charitable purposes within our local community. Specifically, the Fund recommends grants to IRS-approved public charities that support children, with a special preference given to organizations focused on assisting children with disabilities. By prioritizing those with physical, mental, or economic disadvantages, the Fund seeks to bridge gaps in care and opportunity for the most vulnerable among us.
Through this partnership, the Ben Mynatt Children's Fund ensures that the Mynatt family's decades-long tradition of giving continues to thrive. It stands as a permanent resource to aid local nonprofits, empowering them to improve the lives of children across Cabarrus County for generations to come.
