By Avalin Inman
The Greater Cabarrus Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of Robbie Furr as its new Director of Development. Robbie officially began his role on July 1, 2025, bringing with him a lifelong connection to Cabarrus County and over 30 years of experience in community engagement, strategic planning, and nonprofit collaboration.
A native of Harrisburg, North Carolina, Robbie previously served in leadership roles with the NC Cooperative Extension, where he developed impactful programs, led more than 500 volunteers, and fostered meaningful partnerships with local governments and nonprofits. A certified facilitator and skilled collaborator, Robbie has helped guide organizations in strategic planning and professional development across the region. He holds a Master’s degree from NC State University and a Bachelor’s from UNC Charlotte.
“Robbie’s dedication to Cabarrus County and deep understanding of the nonprofit landscape make him an invaluable addition to the Foundation,” said Dr. Cam Cruickshank, President of the Greater Cabarrus Foundation. “His experience, heart for service, and ability to connect people to purpose will be instrumental in advancing our mission.”
Robbie’s community involvement reflects a deep and lasting commitment to the people and nonprofits of Cabarrus County. He currently serves as Board Chair for the Cabarrus Arts Council and previously held the same role with the Cabarrus Partnership for Children. Over the years, he has volunteered his time and expertise with numerous nonprofit agencies including Cabarrus Meals on Wheels, Lifeline Christian Ministries, and the Salvation Army of Cabarrus & Stanly Counties. A longtime supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Robbie has participated in numerous “Bowling for Kids’ Sake” events, helping raise critical funds for local youth mentoring programs. His support also extends to the Historic Cabarrus Association, Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County, and Cooperative Christian Ministry. In addition, he remains active in civic service through the Rotary Club of Cabarrus County and his role on Harrisburg’s Planning and Zoning Advisory Board.
For Robbie, this role is more than a career move—it’s a calling.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to align people’s dreams and passions in Cabarrus County with financial investments in our community that last a lifetime,” said Furr. “The Foundation’s focus on supporting nonprofits right here at home—offering not just funding, but collaboration and connection—is what drew me in. This is about creating legacy and impact in the community I’ve always called home.”
As he begins this new chapter, Robbie’s top priorities include identifying individuals and families who are passionate about investing in the long-term success of Cabarrus County’s nonprofit agencies. He is focused on expanding the Foundation’s growing pool of community investors—people who want to maximize local resources, address critical needs, and help establish permanent endowment funds that ensure long-term sustainability. Through these efforts, Robbie aims to elevate the role of philanthropy in building a more connected, compassionate, and resilient community.
